Being physically fit is not the only basis of being healthy. Being healthy means being mentally and emotionally fit. Being healthy should be part of your overall lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can protect you from diseases and long-term illnesses. A healthy lifestyle also increases your self-esteem and self-image. You can maintain a healthy lifestyle by doing what is right for your body.

Now let’s consider these 7 tips on how you can maintain a healthy lifestyle:

No 1.       Eat foods rich in different nutrients.

For good health, you need more than 40 different nutrients, and indeed, no single food can supply all of them. It is not about a single meal, it is about a balanced food choice over time that will make a difference. A high-fat lunch could be followed by a low-fat dinner.

No 2.     Ensure to eat plenty of foods rich in carbohydrates.

About half the calories in our diet should come from foods rich in carbohydrates, such as cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes, and bread. It is a good idea to include at least one of these at every meal. This helps to ensure a healthy living.

No 3.  Consider foods with unsaturated fat.

Fats are important for good health and proper functioning of the body. However, too much of it can negatively affect our weight and cardiovascular health. When cooking, we should boil, steam or bake, rather than frying, this will help remove the fatty part of the meat. You are advised to use vegetable oils

No 4. Take lots of fruits and vegetables.

Fruits and vegetables are among the most important foods for giving us enough vitamins, minerals, and fiber. We should try to eat at least 5 servings a day. For example, a glass of fresh fruit juice at breakfast would be a nice diet.

A high salt intake can result in high blood pressure, and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. There are different ways to reduce salt in the diet.  Interesting to note that when cooking, it's advised to substitute salt with spices thereby increasing flavors and tastes. On the other hand, sugar provides sweetness and an attractive taste, but sugary foods and drinks are rich in energy and are best enjoyed in moderation, as an occasional treat. You can use fruits instead.

No 6.   Drink plenty of water and liquids.

This is very essential in ensuring a healthy lifestyle. Adults need to drink at least 1.5 liters of fluid a day or more if it's very hot or if they are physically active. Water is the best source, of course, and we can use tap or mineral water, sparkling or non-sparkling, plain or flavored. Fruit juices, tea, soft drinks, milk, and other drinks, can all be okay.

No 7. Keep a healthy body weight.

Finally, maintaining a healthy body weight is essential for a healthy lifestyle. The right weight for you depends on factors like your gender, height, age, and gene. Excess body fat comes from eating more than you need. Nevertheless, physical activities help you spend the energy and make you feel good. The message is simple: if you are gaining weight, you need to eat less and be more active.

Note: Do not skip breakfasts. They are the first meal of the day and are considered very essential to the body. With these seven tips in the proper place, you are assured of a healthy lifestyle.
